SpankyStokes.com booth # 203 is going to be housing all kinds of amazing art by some seriously talented artists, one of those is the above custom by artist Ian Ziobrowski as his rad 8" tall custom Munny with 2-heads titled "Nuggzilla" will be on display and sale this weekend. According to Ian this character "Nuggzilla" is a case of bad smoke, and you never know when it creeps up, haha! Stop on by and check this out in person, you won't be disappointed!
Mikie Graham aka Zombiemonkie is primarily known for his work with Blamo Toys, well just recently he has taken on his own personal side project an and today you are getting a first look at his new artistic venture, a small self run toy line named "Yokaiju." Mikie will be releasing his first character titled "Oni Baba" this weekend at Dcon. Mikie says that Oni Baba "is portrayed wearing a traditional Japanese Hannya mask. Hannya masks have been worn in Japanese Noh Theater for hunderds of years to represent a jealous or malicious woman whom has gone mad and transformed into demon form."
These figures are hand-cast in resin and hand-painted, and one of the really cool things about these figures is that they have articulation in the hands! "Oni Baba" comes housed in a traditional Kaiju style bag and header. Each purchase includes a printed 6X9 bio card / mini character print. This "Blue Demon" colorway is a limited edition of ONLY 8, 4 of which will be available this coming weekend at SpankyStokes.com Dcon booth #203 for $90.
The word and concept of "Yokaiju" are a mash up of two Japanese terms. 1: Yokai: traditional Japanese ghosts and monsters created over hundreds of years of oral story telling. Yokai are more than just monsters, they are unique characters with interesting back stories that often have a strong moral core. 2: Kaiju: giant battle monsters, shrunken down into a unique monster figure. Combining the two words you get a nonsense jumble word "Yokaiju" which perfectly encapsulates Mikie's concept: fun, creepy, handmade monster toys that you can love, collect, and yes, even fight with!

For many in the toy collecting world ThreeA is more than just a toy company. The legion as it's known is a community that collects great toys but more importantly looks after it's own and shares a tight knit bond. That's why a few weeks ago when news spread that Gimbat one of the mod's for the forum and the news source for all things 3A be it of twitter, various forums or facebook, had a heart attack it came as quite a blow. Gimbat being a modest person didn't say much about it and preferred to keep a low profile but now as he's starting to get his strength back we can all breathe a sigh of relief. And yet for Gimby there is still the many tests and doctor appointments for him to come as he's very young (mid 30's) to have a heart attack. There has been a fundraiser privately going for Gimby for a few weeks now, so if anyone would like to send a donation even if its just a few dollars, today would be a great day to do so as it's the final day of the fundrasier. So if your interested please send any donations via paypal to Dolly@karrellis.com
I am sure you have heard of the new resin figure that has come out in the past few months named "Gumpy", well creator of said figure Jose R. just completed a Sketchbot for the upcoming show at Munky King TODAY! Jose states that "The Gumpy is at it again , trying to mimic another. He might have taken it to far this time by taking out the competition he hopes to replace the Sketchbot. Will anybody know the difference , who knows?" I can't really tell what's going on, but it really looks like Jose used his Gumpy figure to be apart of the Sketchbot design... time will tell!
Remember... not only is Designer-Con this weekend, also going down on November 20th, 2010 is Le Merde’s custom "Burgerbuns" show! This is so rad, and the customs I have seen so far are top notch. In fact to get you all amped up, Mike has put together a little slide show that showcases some of the amazing customs that are going to be seen at the show... peep it below!
