*RECAP* "Little Monsters" group art show @ Million Fishes Gallery 10/31/2010


Halloween night in San Francisco saw the opening of a truly spooktacular group art show at Million Fishes Gallery called "Little Monsters." With 50 participating artists and just under 100 pieces of original hand crafted monster themed art, The show drew a large costumed audience who danced and drank the night away. In short the evening was huge success, and thanks to the photos above and below from both Jeremy Brautman and ValleyDweller... we can all feel like we attended this event!

Keliens "Black Forest Yetien" for D-Con 2010


We have posted about multiple releases of Kel Wilson's awesome Keliens figures and now he has just announced the latest and greatest figure titled "Black Forest Yetien". This particular Yetien is made from resin, stands a whopping 8" tall, has two points of articulation, and was 100% completely sculpted, roto-cast, hand painted by Kel. You can click HERE to see the progression of these figures, from the smooth surfaces before to now the texture and fur... WOW have they come a long way... how sick is this one! The initial release is planned for Designer-Con on November 20th in Pasadena, and they will be limited to only six pieces at set to retail for 70$ each and will come signed and numbered. Great job man... seriously love this version, and can;t wait to see the next release!

The Heavy Metal Qee Project

A group of UK based designers and artists have come together to create 'The Heavy Metal Qee Project', using the 8" Qee as a custom platform to showcase each artists take on "Heavy Metal". This sounds like a really cool project with lots of potential. So far they have five artists involved: Jon Paul Kaiser, Jim Freckingham, DMS, A Little Stranger and Lisa Rae Hanson. Check out their website for more info, and check back often as they update with pics and WIP shots as well. If you like custom toys and heavy metal, this is for you!!

Abe Lincoln Jr's first resin toy, Alpha Globulon now available online!


Abe Lincoln Jr. just announced that his first resin figure titled "Globulon" is up for grabs via his online store HERE or the MyPlasticHeart site HERE. These launched at this years NYCC and got rave reviews and now it's your turn to own one of these figures. Globulon was created for a series of Priority Mail stickers that Abe was disseminating in the streets of NY over the Summer of 2009 and now built in 3D form is looking for a new home. Globulon stands 5" tall, and was cast in an unpainted blue resin which comes packaged in a plastic bag with header card which is retailing for $50 a piece. This is only an edition of 25 pieces and will sell quick!

"Randall" and "Boris" from Bwana Spoons make their debut @ Thrashout in Japan 11/14/2010


From Portland, Oregon, Bwana Spoons is set to launch his much anticipated new set of vinyl creations "Randall" the bear and "Boris" the bee in a show titled "Randall's Magic Scrap Yard" which is set to go down @ Thrash Out in Japan, Gargamel's own shop, on 11/14/2010.


Both Randal and Boris look fantastic in that hot pink soft vinyl and there will be all kinds of other goodies on hand including original artwork, and custom paintings! There is no word on when or if these will be available in the states... so if you have a hook up over seas, time to Skype it up :-)

"Minkster" USB Flashdrives


Alex, a freelance graphic designer living in Cape Town, South Africa, recently launched her own range of designer USB flashdrives called “Minksters”. These flashdrives look more like vinyl figurines and are available in 6 different characters. Each stick is packed with an information card and the drives are preloaded with 2 icons, a wallpaper, shuffle puzzle game and paper toy template (The icons, wallpaper and paper toy are all different from character to character, so the content on each character is different.) The first series – 'The Meitropolis Series' – has now been produced and Alex has plans in the future to expand it and do other series. These designs are very simple and cute, and would be perfect for children during school projects... heck if you like em' you can use em' too! "Genius Flux" custom Big Sal from Ardabus Rubber


Artist Ardabus Rubber just recently finished up another fantastic looking custom piece of vinyl, and this time around it was a commission for a lucky collector. The piece is called "Genius Flux" is a custom Big Sal figure, originally created by Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters, Ardabus put his own spin on it drawing inspiration from a mix of both Dali and the movie 'Back to the Future'. Once completed, this customs also came with a handpainted wooden box making it the complete package. You like what you see... well Ardabus will have a bunch of exclusive customs for D-Con, at both the CTU booth and the SpankyStokes.com booth so come on out and check out his work in person... it's amazing!

Artist Edition Yo-Yo #7 by Travis Lampe

DIY Rotocasting Machine, Wooden Toys and more from Smallstuffstudios

I recently saw an incredible video of a DIY Rotocasting machine, and it was mesmerizing to say the least. That eventually lead me to a production house based in Switzerland called Smallstuffstudios. I was immediately impressed by the quality of their wood toys and resins, all of which were super clean. Then I saw part 1 of the free tutorial for the DIY Rotocaster. Amazing!!!
