D-LuX's "Poorly Ventilated" solo show @ Super 7

Dan Orosco aka D-LuX has been in the custom toy art scene for some time now, always dabbling here and there with anything he could get his hands on, but it wasn't until a few years back when he finally reached his stride and really took a liking to Eastern vinyl, and now all of his hard work has paid off as his first solo show titled "POORLY VENTILATED" is set to open at Super 7's new location on Haight St in San Francisco (how fitting from our last post :-) this Saturday the 25th of September. This show is going to feature over 40 pieces, a whole slew of customs, done up by Dan which are ALL created using the entire Monster Kolor system... so you know these will shine! Be sure to hit the jump to get a peek at some items in the show, and come on out this Saturday to support Dan as he is flying out from Detroit for the opening!

Super7 Closes Its Doors in Japantown

On Sunday, September 19th, Super7 closed the doors to the Post Street shop it has inhabited in San Francisco's Japantown since June of 2004. The store will re-open this Friday on Haight Street. I stopped by the shop on Saturday, and I was quickly rendered powerless against their 50% off books and magazines sale. (The $5 and $10 toy bin had already been sufficiently scoured.) I picked up all but one (sold out and long gone) issue of Super7's Japanese toy culture magazine of the same name. The pages read like a glimpse into another era, which, I guess it was. Volume 2, Issue 2, went out in July of 2004. Looking at the photos of the store and the scene then, are there clues to the splintering of companies and fracturing of friendships that would follow? Hard to say, but damn were there a lot of great toy photos in a really well-designed print publication from the days when "kindle" was just a thing you did to increase fire.

Removed from its Japantown microcosm, Super7 the store will now be neighbors with other toy and design shops including Kidrobot and Giant Robot. The potential to open up new eyes to Japanese vinyl is there. If you can withstand the scent of piss and patchouli, Haight/Ashbury could soon serve most of your toy-buying needs. Thanks to Josh, Aaron, Alex, Glenn, Brian and everyone else who nerded out and occasionally even got arty over the last several years. See you on the other side.

Cris Rose's "The Metallurgical Evaporator" Jouwe

Today we are getting a look at Cris Rose's fantastic submission for the upcoming Jouwe show at Toy Art Gallery on October 2nd, 2010 in Los Angeles! This creation by Cris is titled "The Metallurgical Evaporator" and has some seriously cool elements incorporated into the custom like all those specifically machined parts, the tubing, wear and tare... I also love the use of the head as he turned it around to alter the shape to fit his needs, great work! This sweet figure also comes with 2 matching resin "Sprogs", one of Cris' newest characters, along with a removable raygun "beam assembly". This is a must see in person as the intricate details aren't done justice through photos, so be sure to come on out to TAG on October 2nd!

Gunnzo trading party and the release of...

This Thursday, September 23rd, Gunnzo is hosting a trading party... for what yo may ask, well the details aren't very specific but from what I can tell, and from their very cryptic message it may just be a Dunny release as well. Gunnzo usually only holds these trading parties for Dunny releases and seeing as we have been finding teasers of Kidrobot's 2-Tone series popping up all over the net... this would only seem fitting. They aren't spilling any beans though, but I am sure more info will drop very soon, what are your thoughts?

Gunnzo
2445 Juan St.
San Diego, CA 92110
Time: 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
