*Review* Smash Tokyo Toys "SEISMIC ACE"

Well... the time is finally here, and after what seems like an eternity, Smash Tokyo Toys out of Australia has finally released their first production figure the "Seismic Ace". We here at SpankyStokes.com were fortunate enough to get our hands on this figure to do a proper review... and to make a long story short, we loved it. From the size of this robot, to the weight and even the fantastic articulated magnetic arms, this figure has it all. The only thing it lacks is proper packaging, but who really needs that... you don't display the package :-) This figure was most definitely a labor of love, and Matty from Smash Tokyo Toys poured his all into it so... watch the video, and if you dig what you see contact Apex Trading Company, or many of the fine vinyl retailers out there and pick one of these bad boys up for only $49.95. Keep in mind that there are only 450 pieces worldwide, so don't sleep on them as they will go fast!

"KING!" Issue 1 from Blacklist Studios

King! is the story of a former professional wrestler who not only is a monster killer for hire, but also closely resembles a certain "King" of Rock n Roll as writer Thomas Hall and artist Daniel Bradford of Blacklist Studios, creators of one of the most acclaimed independent comics of recent years, "Robot-13" return with the release of “KING!”. Now we have covered the works of Robot-13 on this site before, and absolutely love the illustration and story that these guys put out, and now we get a taste of graceland as the King delivers the goods!

The print edition of KING! #1 can be pre-ordered directly from Blacklist Studios. The 32-page, full color comic retails for $3.99, and we here at SS.com had a chance to browse the entire first issue, and we all agree at that price, this is a steal, and really are looking forward to issue #2!

Resin "Junior Spies" from DMS

Artist DMS is set to release a new resin plaster figure he is calling "Junior Spies". These fall into the same vain of his custom resin "Duster" figures as these Junior Spies were created to figure out what continues to destroy them! These are one off hand made resin plaster robots, with a weathered paint job, and looks pretty great! These are set to release on Monday, August 9th via his online store HERE!

Junior Spies Backstory:
"We have developed these small inexpensive robots to be stationed throughout Planet 44 to function as mobile surveylance units. Constructed mainly from waste materials, the units are able to withstand the planet's atmosphere and weather conditions. Several Duster units have been found destroyed recently, the Junior Spies will hopefully give us some more information on the cause."

Richard Kuoch aka Podgy Panda has been planing out and setting up for his upcoming solo show called "the Geeks of Nature" for the past few months now, and all that has come to a head as tonight August 5th, 2010 Nation Toys in Calgary, Canada will open their doors to unveil all his amazing works!

Above are some setup pictures that I stole from Podgy's Twitter account, and as you can see, not only is this show going to feature OG art but one off sculptural pieces as well as custom vinyl pieces Rich says about this show: "What do King Kong, Godzilla, Bigfoot, Yeti, Narwhal, and an Unicorn all have in common? They are troublemakers of the everyday world, they are looked at and called Freaks. Not your average bunch of freaks. In their world, being a misfit is the way to be. And you're in luck - they're holding a Geeks of Nature Party and you're invited!" This exhibition opens Tonight and is going to run until September 2010, and be sure to stop by this evening as Rich will be there sketching and chattin with all!

"Midwestern Ghosteeez" plush figures from Matthew Ryan Sharp

Matthew Ryan Sharp aka MRS aka itskindadark just sent over some awesome news about a sweet plush figure that has been in the works for some time now! His "Midwestern Ghosteeez" were his vision, brought to life by the "Princess of Plush" Lana Crooks as she stitched and sewed these bad boys together... and after that Matthew hand painted each and every one of these plush figures which are based on his paintings & illustrations, and I feel really capture his sporadic artistic style! These stand roughly 9" x 3", come individually bagged & signed on header card, and have awesome wooden eyes! The final edition size still is still TBD, but will be under 30 pieces and are set to retail for $40 each! This first batch will be released in a pretty small run at MRS's October 15th solo show titled: "The Benefits of Exhaustion" curated by William Rupnik Gallery at Proximity in Cleveland, OH.
