Plastic Canvas creations from Slim

Stephen aka Slim aka Apocalypse Popsicle just passed on some amazing info and images of a project he has been working on. These consist of a multi-layered mixed-media collage encased in thick clear coating. Separated by layers of clear plastic that range from millimeters to several centimeters, the images as layered have a really cool depth effect and the solidity of the plastic creates what I think is a pretty interesting art object. This is a really cool way to take bits and pieces of artwork/comic books and blend them into a sculptural piece! Slim has done a TON of these, hit up his Flickr HERE to check them out, and most are up for purchase, email slim via apocalypsepopsicle@gmail.com if you dig what you see!

Squadt .50 from Jamungo

Now these are really cool! Ferg posted up an awesome picture yesterday on the Collect & Destroy forum showing off Jamungo's upcoming project... the smaller "Squadt .50" which apparently will be released the same as their larger counterparts in versions such as Gosht (above), Jack, Chipp, Gassed, and Nozzel. When asked if these were going to be available in sets Ferg replied "Yea, ...some will come with vehicles n shit... some will come with bots or K11s..some will come with other squadts." How rad is that, you will definitely be able to start building a mini-Squadt army! These appear to be about the same size as the 3" BUDS, except unlike the BUDS being ABS, these will be vinyl like the bigger Squadts, injection vinyl that is, with the helmets being rotocast and the lenses ABS - exactly like the large Squadts. They are shooting for a June release, no word on price as of yet, but they should be very reasonable!

Frank Mysterio's custom resin "Karuzo"

When we last saw "Karuzo" HERE, the creation by Chauskoskis and Frank Mysterio, he was nice and white, a blank canvas, and now Frank has taken it upon himself to lay some paint down on this 6.5" resin figure, and above is the first look at his creation! I am a fan of this shape and the work that Frank does is top notch, always having some type of Lucha feel to it, which in my opinion you can never go wrong! Keep your eyes peeled for more info on more customs as these have been sent out all over the world... oh and rumor has it Karuzo might, just might, see some vinyl in his future... time will tell!

"Deep Sea Duster" robot from artist DMS

DMS just announced another version of his really cool Duster figure, this version titled "Deep Sea Duster" is available HERE for only $26 in his webstore. This figures stand 4" tall, and features a much better paint scheme in my opinion than his pervious releases... really diggin the green and gold... and like the other releases this is cast in his Dform plastic. This version is limited to 25 unique hand painted, made to order figures!

Backstory:
"Throughout the Ocean region of Planet 44 we have stationed Deep Sea Duster units. Adapted to withstand the corosive sea water, they monitor tides and marine lifeforms and collect samples from the ocean floor"

Walrus TV: HVW8 Interview from "The Run Up"

"When it's the three of us we think differently, challenge each other, and approach problems differently. It's allowed us to grow independently as artists and also bring more when collectively we get together. Now there's nothing that really stops us. Distance doesn't stop us." - HVW8

Montreal's HVW8 Production House was established in 1998 by Tyler Gibney, Gene Pendon and Dan Buller. Often merging political themes and pop cultural images in massive compositions, their collaborative work integrates each member's style seamlessly. HVW8 has produced album covers, exhibited in international galleries and museums, and performed live beside artists such as Roots Manuva and Herbalizer. Watch the interview from "The Run Up," available to the public for free for the first time, on Walrus TV.
