"Dinki" from Bic Plastics X Tristan Eaton

The Bic Plastic booth at ToyFair seems to be a hot spot and Tristan Eaton seems to be the center of attention for this post. "Dinki" a character dreamed up a long time ago, which used to have the alias "Runts" is now reborn thanks to Bic as a whole line of products... and by a whole line i mean a WHOLE line :-) You name it, it looks like Dinki will be on it, from clocks, walpaper, designer toys, kitchen nicknacks... honestly everything, and this little monkey figure does not seem to be the shy type, planting his face where ever he wants to! Obviously this has a mass market appeal... so don't go an get your panties in a bunch if you see these in retail stores.

Lil'G working prototype...

Jasin Dollin of Lil'G vinyl boombox fame was contacted for an amazing opportunity by Candice & Alison, Candice & Alison were commissioned by MINI to design and produce the Canadian launch of the MINI Beachcomber concept car at the 2010 Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS). The theme concept was a 1950's Beach Tailgate Party which included Pin up style models with era inspired costumes. Adding to the beach party theme, Candice & Alison approached Jasin to have Lil'G accompany the models showcasing the display area. Jasin said that "Everything went amazing, the MINI Beachcomber - concept car was very well received. The models (Jon, Vlada and Caitlyn) were all decked out in their beach wear and looked the part of 50s beach babes and dude. With Lil'G at their side as they showed off the new car from MINI."

Getting ready for the event took a lot of work. The Lil'G prototype wasn't fully ready for the event, so Jasin had to have new parts rapid prototyped for the back section. Creating the slot for the MP3 players to be inserted into. Industrial Designer Jason Nip (DesigNet) was a large part of getting Lil'G up to speed, together they brought Lil'G to what it would be on store shelves. MINI/Candice & Alison requested that it be a full working model as it would look at retail... and boy they pulled it off!!!

Tosa Novmichi of Maywa Denki at Giant Robot

Giant Robot is pleased to host a rare U.S. appearance by Tosa Novmichi at GR2. Tosa is half of the legendary Japan-based Maywa Denki music and art duo that creates its own ingenious and otherworldly instruments. In addition to touring and playing sold-out rock concerts around the world with their pneumatic, electronic, automated, and conceptual music devices, they create some of the world's most interesting and interactive toys.

Following the footsteps of the popular Knockman family (centered on the eponymous, wind-up figure that knocks its own head like a drum) comes the Otamatone. The piece looks like a musical note and plays like a Theremin. Fans of electronic music, cool toys, and otaku culture from Japan will not want to miss Tosa's personal demonstration of the toy. The performance and signing will take place on Saturday, February 20 from 5:00 - 7:00.

New Website and Prints From RISK...

In a career spanning 27 years, RISK has impacted the evolution of graffiti as an art form in Los Angeles and worldwide. RISK gained major notoriety for his unique style and pushed the limits of graffiti further than any writer in L.A. had before: He was one of the first writers in Southern California to paint freight trains, and he pioneered writing on “heavens,” or freeway overpasses. At the peak of his career he took graffiti from the streets and into the gallery with the launch of the Third Rail series of art shows, and later parlayed the name into the first authentic line of graffiti-inspired clothing.

Before he’d ever heard of graffiti, RISK was unconsciously writing it. As a kid, he filled sketchbook after sketchbook with images, not just of people and things but of letters too. He even had spray paint in his hand before ever applying it to a wall, using it to paint BMX bikes. “Even back then I think I was addicted to spray paint,” he recalls. “I just loved painting with it.”

Visit RISK’s limited-edition print series just released at www.riskrock.com. Each screen print is signed and numbered by the artist. RISK’s newly relaunched website www.riskrock.com was produced by Roger Gastman at R. Rock Enterprises.
