Erick Scarecrow in Hyper Hobby!
In the new Sept issue of Hyper Hobby Japan, Erick Scarecrow is featured along with his Papa Sama Wood Hermit SDCC 09 edition and his Kissaki "Sandstorm" exclusive! This is a very big deal for him because as a western creator/designer to be featured like this you have to be pretty different in your offerings. A lot of what's normally featured in HH from the west is figs from big properties like Marvel, Disney etc. Erick also states that he has also been collecting the issues for several years so he never would've thought his figs along with his face would be in it. So rad!!!! Congrats Erick, and well deserved!!!!

What is Taco Bell thinking? BellHedz vinyl figures...
Are you kidding me, what is Taco Bell thinking? After being privy to this for only about an hour thanks to @philipalanoneal on twitter, this popped up everywhere I was looking, and now Kidrobot knows, and I assume they are taking legal action as I type this, and if they're not they probably should.
These "Urban Vinyl" figures are Taco Bells latest venture into the kids meal toy giveaway, these are titled "Bellhedz" and are going to be a blind-boxed series of 22 figures, and at first look I thought they were cool, but after really looking at them they are a blatant rip-off of the classic Dunny design with a phallic shaped dome, or as they call it, a bell head. The art work is shotty, and really deserves to be a kids meal toy, but what's with the shape and packaging... come on!!! What are your thoughts on this figure, and are you going to scramble to get these when they are released this Friday.

Life Size • Shawn Barber and Turf One
Sept. 2nd to 13th 2009
Opening reception: Wednesday Sept. 2nd 09 6-9pm
Galerie d’art Yves Laroche has been eager to present Life Size, a two person exhibition featuring the work of American artist Shawn Barber and Paris-native, Turf One (Jean Labourdette). Supported by each of this artist’s individualistic approach to portraiture, Life Size will be taking us through a refined collection of paintings documenting some of today’s most interesting personalities.
Both vivid and painterly, the work of Shawn Barber brings beauty to the heavily pierced and widely tattooed. Barber seemingly approaches the subject in a painting as a snapshot- isolating a moment where the ink penetrates the skin or when an angle feels just right. However, it is his poetic brushstroke that transforms his work from the documenting of a moment into a work of art. Amongst a long list of achievements and collaborations, his paintings can be found in private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Asia, Europe and Australia.
Turf One’s sculptural approach to painting removes his subjects from any typical context and brings them to a fantasy world. With a passion for graffiti, Turf One works mainly with found objects. His style and immaculate execution reference both Gothic and Surrealist works; however, the saints and scenes from that time have been replaced by Labourdette’s fellow friends, contributors and muses. Extending from the comforts of a frame, his subjects’ faces are painted with bodies and contexts which are carved, rusted, adorned and manipulated in a both highly exaggerated yet detailed manner. Represented by Galerie d’art Yves Laroche, Jean Labourdette aka Turf One has been building a strong following in the past 5 years.

Who’s Da Bomb Custom Toy Contest
"Bombs have been a notorious threat to our safety, but these customized vinyl ones just serve to blow up your visual sensations" This week Tenacious Toys and Delicious Drips are hosting the Who's Da Bomb custom toy contest. Artists from around the world are customizing the extremely small, yet dangerous Frank Kozik Mini Bomb by Toy2r. Some of the artists are completely new to toy customization, and some are experienced veterans to the trade. The Kozik Bomb represents the perfect mini project for some of our extremely busy artists, while also providing a simple platform for the newcomers. All customs were revealed on September 1st on the Tenacious Toys website HERE!
On the same day, voting will commence on the custom Bombs which have been submitted to the Delicious Drips website. Voting will take place from September 1st through the 7th. We encourage everyone to go check out the customs and VOTE! There is a valuable prize package for the top 3 most voted-on Bombs!!! So get going!
This custom Mini Bomb show was a spur-of-the-moment concept by Benny of Tenacious Toys. After seeing a custom Bomb created by Willow, it occurred to him that the Bomb makes a simple and fast custom toy which would be appropriate for first-time customizers. He put out a call on the Tenacious Toys blog for anyone interested in participating, and he got 1400 responses! After sending out the remainder of the Tenacious Toys stockpile of Mini Bombs, Benny called upon Toy2R for a resupply and they kindly sent over another case of Bombs. All in all, Tenacious Toys shipped out 80+ bombs to people all over the world (for free!). Benny also called upon Delicious Drips for advice, and got much more than that- Tenacious Toys got a co-sponsor! Delicious Drips volunteered the voting capabilities of their Submission section, as well as hundreds of dollars worth of prizes for top vote-getters, bringing the Who's da Bomb show to the next level!
So, Tenacious Toys, Delicious Drips & Toy2R present to you the Who's da Bomb?! custom Toy2R Mini Bomb show, an online custom show dedicated to the next generation of toy customizers! It is the guys, getting sculpy under your fingernails and inhaling paint fumes in your basement, that make the custom toy world such an interesting place!

Shirts "Get Wild" at TeeFury
Animals. They're everywhere. And for three days at TeeFury, you'll be getting a few of their favorites! Some call it a conspiracy. "Teevil," they exclaim, "you're just printing animals because you're an animal!"
Clearly, this is preposterous. As if all animals had somehow organized together, creating a network of well-placed operatives at the biggest companies across the globe. Why, we'd probably even trick humans into forming societies dedicated to our protection, and convince others to take us into their homes as adorable freeloaders... keep your eyes out on TeeFury for these upcoming shirts!

"Wood" Amazing video from McBess
Do you all remember the Mcbess Dunny that we blogged about not too long ago, well unfortunately I do not have any news on that, but I do have something rad to share! UK-based illustration artist McBess has teamed up with Simon Landrein, a French graphic designer out of London, to create this amazing video for Mcbess's band "The Dead Pirates", and all I can say is WOW! Sit back and enjoy this masterpiece, I love how the whole video is done in true Mcbess fashion, and the music is rockin too!
