This website is about any and everything that sparks the creative genius in all of us. By profession I am a Graphic Designer, and enjoy all aspects of design. From traditional to urban from resin to vinyl, these are all great mediums and deserve to be explored. On top of that everything from music to movies from guns to graffiti.
Once again Bwana Spoons and the Grass hut crew had a great showing at this years Comic-Con. They all had some amazing customs up for sale not only in toy format but a ton of original artwork as well. We as a crowd also got to participate in the first annual San Diego Comic-Con pencil fight, (very similar to the other pencil fights that have happened on their tour, but way better because I was there :-) where the lucky winner walked away with a couple customs and an og piece of art from Bwana. Le Merde was also on hand with a ton of his fantastic resin pieces, as well as Martin and Scrappers who also had an amazing showing this year at the Con!
This was a ton of fun, and not only did I get my butt whooped in pencil fighting, but I got alot of great coverage from their booth as well as a great interview with Bwana about what his plans in the future are with his work and what we can expect new figure wise. Well Strangekiss had a ton of great stuff once again this year at Comic Con, this time around they released they awesome figure "Yeti" created by David Lanham. The Yeti came in three different versions created well known artists! The versions are as follows: MAD's (Gangsta Bill), Kozik's (Mantra Bill) , and David Lanham's (OG Bill). These are now available online for sale through the Strangekiss site HERE! That was just the tip of the iceberg, they also had customs for sale by artist Jon Paul Kaiser (London) and Wuzone (Spain), as well as many new prototypes of the Fetch and Maxswell figures by David, as well as a new proto by Kozik and a really cool figure of Twitterrific’s "Ollie" was also there in 2 versions!
On top of all the amazing stuff mentioned above they did a virtual signing with MAD, where from the comfort of his studio back in Kansas City he chatted live with Comic-Con onlookers and actually did sketches where those sketches were printed out at the booth! It was awesome to see, and the video above shows MAD talking with fellow KC artist Scribe, and other fans. It was too funny when KanO and Joe Ledbetter popped by and said hello, they posed with the computer screen as MAD did as well! The future of Comic-Con where artists can just stay at home is here! Emilio Garcia creator of the Jumping Brain resin to dropped two new colorways! The GREEN Jumping Brain was released on July 25th, which was limited to only 120pcs, and a PINK Jumping Brain which is now available at UrbanAngel.com, and that one is limited to only 20pcs. These are really cool figures and they are all hand made, which in my book equals AWESOME!
We recently posted an article (HERE) about this awesome print that Brian Harsanto's was going to release of a new Giclee print based off his upcoming release of his resin figure "The Beat Up Boxer" posted HERE. This time around The Beat Up Boxer teams up with Betty Boop, and the title of this is "Boxerboop", but due to legal issues he had to pull this print :-( Keep a lookout for updates on this issue, as "Boop" will be altered so this can release again!
Olive47 is a street artist/ designer living in London, and she has a new vinyl toy coming out titled "Miss Cupcake". This delectably cute collectible is 3" of vinyl, and comes in 4 colorways + 1 chase colorway and will retail for $10.95 a piece. The opening for this amazing event was last night, Wednesday, July 29th 2009 from 6 to 9pm, and thanks to Frenchie of Montrealvinyl.com w have these amazing picture from this event! Galerie Yves Laroche proudly presents Gardens of Misfortune, a collection of work by American artist Chris Ryniak and Montreal native Jonathan Bergeron (Johnny Crap). Portrayed in a series of paintings and drawings is Ryniak and Bergeron’s unique vision; a netherworld of unearthly creatures emerging from misfortunate places. This show looks amazing and both artist work really compliments eachother's style!
Frenchie says that the toy, err art piece is amazing, and is priced at around $160! There were also and 4 prints available at the show, 2 by Jonathan and 2 by Chris, prices are between $100 and $200. I am sure these will be up online soon at the Galerie Yves Laroche website, so keep an eye open for those.
