Virulento the Lil' Lucha *Revisited*

I had posted a little while back about Troy Stith's handmade resin figure HERE, and now these 2" resin pieces are ready to make it into your home!

A back story about Virulento the Lil' Lucha:
"The unbeatable fearless lucha libre wrestler Dr. Virus refused to step down to the threats of the Goono mob boss Salamandriss, who ordered him to give away his title to his puny sniveling son Moocho or else. Dr. Virus was never one to walk away from a challenge, let alone give it to some loser mob boss' son in a fixed match. Immediately after Dr. Virus defeated Moocho, he was abducted and thrown into the radioactive pits of Olar Valley. This wasn't the end of Dr. Virus, soon after Salamandriss' goons left Dr. Virus' "death site" he emerged, although not as his humanly self, but as VIRULENTO!"

These turned out so amazing, and even the pictures are great, I am really looking forward to seeing more from Troy in the future as well as what other artists come up with on this awesome little platform!

The Lil' Lucha Virulentos will be on sale May 31st at 2:00 pm (EST)
in Troy's store HERE for $20 a piece plus s&h.

And if they want to find Troy hit him up on his Twitter or his blog!

“Reverberations” works by Che Jen & Kenji Hirata

FIFTY24SF Gallery Presents
Reverberations” A Show Featuring the
Works of
Che Jen & Kenji Hirata

Opening Reception: Thursday June 4, 2009 from 7–9 P.M.

Che Jen is a Brooklyn-based painter from South Korea, who was raised in Brooklyn. Growing up in Brooklyn and the Lower East Side in the 1970s “defined the visual abstractions that are incorporated into my being and permeates my personality and my work.” Her newest works are a reflection of her subconsciousness, a manifestation of the process in which ideas are born. Che Jen has shown around the world in Milan, London, Tokyo and all over the United States, and has been featured in many publications.

Kenji Hirata
is a New York-based painter from Nagasaki, Japan. His works are influenced by the Buddhist idea that “emptiness is everything eternal.” In his paintings, he fuses together the five natural elements of water, fire, metal, wood and soil, creating compositions that are dense, yet have open space. Hirata is inspired by nature, and his vibrant pieces reference Jamaican dance hall sound systems, sci-fi futurism, billboards and hand painted signage of South East Asia. From public murals, small canvases and animated works for film, Kenji Hirata is an innovative member of the contemporary art and film community.

“Reverberations” features new paintings on display at FIFTY24SF Gallery from June 4, 2009 from 7 to 9 PM.

Angry Woebots @ Intoxicated Demons Gallery

Untitled from INTOXICATED DEMONS GALLERY on Vimeo.

The Intoxicated Demons Gallery is situated in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Here you will find a colorful scene that moves along between hipness and a grungy attitude. People who live here have a clear idea of Berlin in a time everything moves pretty fast.

Berlin has currently more than 350 art galleries. But the Intoxicated Demons are different, because they focus on an often neglected art genre – so called urban contemporary art. The urban art scene worldwide is a fast growing network. In the meantime there are a lot of almost famous galleries in the USA (such as ‘blkmrkt-gallery’), in England (‘cablestreet’), France or the rest of Europe.

The gallery is quite like a mixture of a shop and a gallery – definitely a place to hang out, have a coffee or meet other people. They try to represent the scene – the way of urban living. You will find original artworks, screen prints, canvases or posters there for every budget. Beside that they feature ‘live-painting-shows’ with their most favorite artists worldwide.

The Steve Brown Gallery is open for business!

Cleveland, Ohio has long been home to a bastion of talent. From the gig posters of Derek Hess to the melancholy sculpture of Scott Radke, the amount of talent in the city that brought you the Burning River is staggering.

Finally, there is an outlet that
these artists deserve.

The Steve Brown Gallery is a floating gallery, curating multiple spaces in the Greater Cleveland area. Three venues have been secured, Brigade Clothing http://www.clothingbrigade.com, 1300 & A Third, and Shoparooni's Annex Gallery http://www.shoparooni.com, and shows are already being scheduled in all three locations.

The goal of TSBG is simple: We are here to serve the artists and their art. In addition to curating and producing multiple shows in the city, TSBG will also offer career-counseling services including licensing assistance, product development, wholesale distribution, and more. We also have key connections with a number of high-quality manufacturing sources, and can assist artists in finding the right manufacturers for their gallery multiples, prints, or other consumer goods.

The Steve Brown Gallery is not simply another place to buy art; it's a resource for artists. We aren't selling a product, we are selling a souvenir of one brief moment in their career...a career that we hope to play a part in helping the artist develop with longevity in mind.

Current artists on the roster include illustrator and painter Benjamin Haehn, and painter/sculptor/madman Chris Ryniak.

For more information about The Steve Brown Gallery, please visit
http://www.stevebrowngallery.com.
