BoOoya Ghosts by MAD *UPDATE*

Mad just revealed a picture of his "Punk" mini-figure for his upcoming series called BoOoya Ghosts produced by Kidrobot. These characters created by MAD first debuted at his first solo show titled "LOST MARBLES". It was held at Rotofugi Designer Toy Store & Gallery in Chicago. The B&W images surrounding the promo shot are sketches that were framed and sold at such said show!

It looks like Kidrobot is doing a really good job with these so far at least from the 2d to 3d representation, so hopefully they can continue this for these awesome BoOoya Ghosts!

The First Solo Show From Chaka *THIS WEEKEND*

Los Angeles – March 2009 - Mid-City Arts is pleased to present the first solo show ever from the infamous LA graffiti artist, Chaka. Resurrection opens April 25th and will feature highly anticipated new work from the mysterious Chaka.

Daniel Ramos, AKA Chaka, was 18 when he was arrested and charged in 1991 with 48 counts of vandalism, trespassing and causing $500,000 in property damage. Chaka’s signature tag had appeared in a staggering 10,000 locations from Orange County to San Francisco. At the height of his notoriety Chaka was demonized by mainstream media and culture as being little more than a prolific vandal. At the same time he was celebrated by street artists who admired the ability of a teenager from the projects to literally make his mark on the vast, glitzy LA cityscape in such a ubiquitous manner. He is credited with breaking away from the New York “wildstyle” popular at the time and introducing clearer, more blockish lettering into tagging. Chaka was one of the first to create a reputation as a recognizable individual tagger, and spawned many imitators. However Chaka was not just a lone operative. He was part of the LOD crew and as such, his work in reclaiming hard to reach places of the cityscape (freeway overpasses, walls, trains etc) on behalf of his crew is recognized by fellow taggers as a selfless achievement for LA’s graffiti scene as a whole.

After spending a year tracking down the once unavoidable Chaka, Mid-City Arts presents his first solo show. For Chaka’s fans as well as street art collectors, this will be a rare opportunity to revisit the nostalgia of the early 90’s, and own a piece of LA’s cultural history. Chaka himself will be in attendance and there will be a limited number of signed posters in addition to his works available for sale. The opening reception will take place April 25th, 7:00-9:00pm at Mid-City Arts, 5113 West Pico Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90019. For more info visit: www.chakaone.com

Mid-City Arts was established in September 2009 as an extension of the store 33third – LA’s premier source of graffiti art supplies, streetwear apparel, and related books and magazines. The gallery was established with the purpose of showcasing local, national, and international artwork by up and coming and established artists with a focus on (but not limited to) graffiti / street / urban art. Mid-City Arts offers a show space that interacts with other artists and events that surround the 33third Los Angeles location. The gallery’s artwork is available to view by the active customer base of 33third, which includes graffiti artists and fans of graffiti art. Mid-City Arts is open Monday through Sunday 12-8PM.

The Great Controller and The Midnight Howlers

The Great Controller and
The Midnight Howlers
"Wherever there is conflict there is suffering, oppression and terrible crimes that evil men would see hidden from the rest of the world. The Midnight Howlers were a group of robot primates that could be deployed in rough terrain and jungle to survey the situation on the ground. Heavily armoured and unbelievably fast, these bots were designed to send back reports to The Great Controller up to 60 miles away by screaming at tremendous volumes. No matter where they were, be it valley, jungle or anywhere radio cannot penetrate, The Great Controller would hear their cries. His body contained nothing but comms and data storage equipment and by climbing to the top of the highest mountain, would beam every byte of data that they had collected to orbiting satellites that lay in wait.

Due to the tremendous heat generated by their systems, they could only operate at night, but this gave them a tactical advantage and their midnight screams would strike fear into the hearts of those they sought. Flashes of color in the jungle were last thing many of them saw, but vengeance was never in their programming...."

The Great Controller and 2 of the Midnight Howlers will be on his store tomorrow, April 23rd at 18:00 London time - the remaining 3 go up April 24th at 18:00 London time.

Dunny Endangered more pics and info...

Here are more pics from the Endangered Dunny Series! This series features 15 designs (and 2 chases) by 13 incredible artists, this limited edition lineup arrives May 21. Blind boxed and $8.95 each and has art from, Amanda Visell, Aya Kakeda, Elizabeth Berdann, Chuckboy, Frank Kozik, Jeremyville, Joe Ledbetter, Kronk, Michelle Valigura, Mr. Shane Jessup, Sket One, Tad Carpenter, Triclops Studio and Touma. Sket's is the pig with the chainsaw...really diggin this, and Chuckboy's lion is pretty sweet looking, and Touma got the go ahead to modify the design of the dunny...pretty sweet variation and to top it off the box art is by Jeremyville!

Now here is a nugget of info that you all might not know...this series is called Endangered, and it really lives up to its name because rumor has it this series is super limited and stores are only getting a certain amount, and it seems as though major chains such as Urban Outfitters might not even get these in stock...super limited is the key here and Kidrobot is really looking out for their independent small stores. Once again this is a rumor so we will see how this pans out!
