Calavera the wandering luchador

CALAVERA survives in Chilangolandia, born on a tomb stone in Mixquic, in a Day of the Dead. He is CALAVERA, who, legend says, shall confront and defeat the ruthless creatures from the underworld. His father, a baker, his mother, a curandera, and his grandfather, the legendary wrestler known as LA CALACA. This is how our hero combines a bizarre mix which transforms him, maybe, into the last hope for mankind. Along with his inseparable partner, TALAVERA, they fight the evil during weekdays while Friday and Saturday the crowds throng the arenas where they become the unquestioned kings of the ring. Calavera gains his strength from the Day of the Dead loaf and the refined sugar from the sugar skulls prepared when the duty calls by his mom, doña Remedios, with an age-old secret formula. CALAVERA is back in the ring, thus putting an end to the rumors about his death. Thank you, dear Virgin, for sending him back, THANK YOU...

CALAVERA is the first collaboration work on a toy between Humberto Ramos and Francisco Herrera. This beast of a man measures 7.5"H (19cm) x 5.1"W (13cm), and is going to retail for around $50!

EXCLUSIVE - "Monster Hunter" DIY from tyleR

tyleR has been trying to keep quite about this as long as he could, but his excitement has gotten the best of him with the finalized prototype. This has been a concept he has wanted to bring to life since first starting the MUTT branding... the toy is called "Monster Hunter".

The idea is that you make your very own mounted "taxidermied" monster head. Just like the original MUTT, the head is mostly feature-less and gets its character from added accessories. These include several different accessories that are currently still in development but expect horns, eyebrows, teeth, antlers, crossbones, and much more! Another little detail feature of the design in a name plate under the head where you can name your monster or species you've "killed"! The plaque is 6.5" x 5.5" and the head protrudes 3.5" without any accessories added. The projected price for these is going to be around $29.99, great deal for a great product!

What's coming up with the toy:
The toy will be officially launched at planet comic con in late march. Along with the launch there will be 5 very exclusive custom monster hunters for display that will then make the trip to NYC for the MUTT show at APW.

The 5 artists participating are:
- Matthew Ryan Sharp
- MonsterDecay
- Project Detonate
- Trenton Matthews
- tyleR

And the most exciting part, expect a contest on SpankyStokes.com soon to design the official "special edition" accessory! More details on that coming soon!

This is the first factory-printed sample of Mr. Peabody by Travis Lampe. The Tear Drips are a new art toy project produced by a collaboration between Chicago-based product development specialists Squibbles Ink, designer toy store Rotofugi and artist Travis Lampe. The vinyl figure is based off the plush form posted below the title picture...really looking forward to seeing these!

Right now there are five of twelve designs approved and in production with another seven designs undergoing revisions. They are shooting for a spring release, sometime prior to San Diego Comic Con.

The Lake Monsters invasion is coming in early 2009... monsters from the midwest!

The Lake Monsters is a new project by Squibbles Ink + Rotofugi. Squibbles Ink is a product development company based here in Chicago, and frequent collaborators with Rotofugi, a designer toy store and art gallery, also in Chicago.

We love monsters and decided that it would be a hell of lot of fun to make some of our own. These will be rotocast vinyl (made in China for those of you who will want to know) that will all be hand painted by us here in the US. We’re already planning on designs by several different midwest-based artists.

Many of the sculpts will be by Cleveland-based artist Chris Ryniak. We are stoked that Chris is into our little project and glad to have him on board.

The first Lake Monster (LM001, aka Big Muscamoot) is also one of Chris’ original designs. He’s a fat amphibious looking little beasty. We hope to have our first official release sometime in March or maybe April of this year, with the possibility of an unpainted release at this year’s Wondercon in San Francisco if we get the first shots from the mold back in time.

I am really looking forward to seeinghow these turn out, Chris is an amazing artist, and all of his customs are super detailed...to the point where they are lifelike, so if they can transfer that to production...winner winner monster dinner! All info from Rotofugi and Squibbles Ink
