"One Out of A Hundred" by John Malloy

"One Out of A Hundred"
by John Malloy
at Art Whino Gallery, Saturday Feb. 21

The show's title is in reference to a personal series of 7 fine art works that center around drug side effects as a metaphor for consumer culture's long-term effects on the human spirit. John's illustration has appeared in a variety of publications, including BPM, Paste, Faesthetic, Business Week, Lemon, Dazed & Confused, and more, and this show is a culmination of his past and present work!

Over 40 Limited Edition Prints and over 50 Works of Original Art, including illustration, fine art, and comics will be on display in the exhibit and for sale.

A little about John:
Born in rural northern Pennsylvania to a cemetary caretaker and a coal-miner’s daughter,John Malloy began drawing at very young age. He later earned a background in painting with one of the world’s most eminent trompe l’oeil artists, and has since been self taught in fine art, illustration, comics, and design.

His first graphic novel, "Amnesia" [2001] combined pen & ink, painted, and digital media, He is presently working on two new graphic novels, as well as an autobiographical comic for Image Comics’ PopGun Anthology titled, “Queasy”.

His illustrations and comics have been featured in a variety of publications, and he is now at work on an ongoing personal fine art series - "One Out of a Hundred" that explores the side effects of medication as a metaphor for the long-term effects of consumer culture on the human spirit.

This show promises to be thought provoking, mind bending and super incitefull all wrapped up in one pretty little package. After viewing some of John's work I could tell that this man puts his heart and soul into every one of his pieces, and boy do they look good! If you are out on the East Coast and can make it out for this show, please do, because it is going to be awesome.

Wii Controller - for the small handed!

After the success of his "HEMP-MOTE" master customizer DHRECK set his sites on something bigger this time around...well actually it is smaller! This is the "MINI-MOTE" a minimalistic mod of the beloved Wii controller!

DHRECK
says:
"This mod comes as promised with a pretty extensive tutorial/guide that is now also up on DHRECK.com. In the first part of the tutorial I make a base to later build on, similar to those used in the rest of my upcoming mods. In part 2 I continue building on this base until bringing it to an end as the Mini-mote, all the while explaining the work."

What an awesome looking modded controller, and for some great comparison shots, as well as a step by step tutorial of how this whole thing was put together visit his site! There are many other mods in the works, and as soon as I find out any more info I will put it up!

"Lovesick" @ Alpha Cult

Lovesick
the art of Jeff Claassen

Love is in the air at Alpha Cult, and they are prepared to let loose with their next art show featuring San Luis Obispo-based artist Jeff Claassen in his aptly titled show, "Lovesick". Jeff's work is a beautiful blend of mixed media elements and styles: illustration over a graffiti edge. Thematically, he explores just about everything, and his design aesthetic always seems to match oh so perfectly. His characters are whimsical, and fantastically framed by his use of bold color blends and stencil art. But the "cuteness" comes tongue-in-cheek; as there is almost always a note of sadness, confusion, or unrequited love which makes the work so damn alluring. Jeff is truly a master of juxtaposition and he continually evolves his craft, all the while operating his shop/gallery located up in his hometown.

Also featuring artwork by:
Aaron Kraten, Kendra Binney, Neil Breton, Nic Rodriguez, and Stenzskull

"Lovesick" opens NEXT SATURDAY, Feb. 14th, with an artist reception party that goes from 6-10 (or later if the vibe is still strong...). Now, we realize that the 14th is Valentine's Day...which makes it a PERFECT stop for your special date!! Stop in before (or after) a dinner and have some drinks, check out the art, meet the artists, and hear some excellent grooves spun by our resident DJs: Púr One & Namo! Don't have a date that night?? Well, get over here, mingle, and GET one!
