This was my entry into the upcoming MeMADL show put on by Delicious Drips! I had a ton of fun working on this piece, and really overcame alot of challenges that I thought I could never figure out, but overall it turned out pretty rad. I used flocking, acrylics, large google eyes, and a ton of Magic Sculpt, to bring this beast to life. And what a beast he is!!!
I call him "Stroll" kinda the thing I have been doing...it stands for "Stokes Troll", and this Stroll just recently got in a fight and lost his tusk, and as you can tell...he is still feeling the pain from it, making him one grumpy gus!
I have a ton of progress shots over at my photobucket page, so if you feel like seeing some of my process, then go take a gander.

Nathan Ota New Toy Design
A little bit about Nathan Ota:
Ever since I can remember, I have always found myself drawing over doing my homework. My early influences came from cartoons on television, comic books, photographs and Punk-rock flyers. I can still remember sneaking into my older brothers room and raiding his ,"Vamperella" comics and trying to copy or trace all the covers I could get my hands on. Classical art never really interested me at that time so I turned to what really spoke to me with artists such as, Robert Williams, Olivia, Puss Head and Raymond Pettibon. Traditional art never came into the picture till I started high school but it still didn't speak to me. I always found myself gravitating toward popular culture and at that time it was graffiti. I was completely hooked! I loved everything about it, the clicking of the ball in the can when shook, the sound of the constant flow of the paint, the scraping of the can against the wall when drawing, the colors, the scale, the friendships and the complete feeling of freedom. Till this day, whenever I smell spray paint in the air, it brings back good times. I still dabbled a little in graffiti once I entered the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California but a whole new world of art was opening my eyes with Illustration. I never knew what I wanted to do when I entered college and kind of left it in the hands of the instructors to lead me in whatever direction I was going. It was a bit frustrating at first but soon after, I started to get it and knew that I was going to be an Illustrator.Nathan is an outstanding artist, and really deserves great recognition. I just recently stumbled upon his works and I am completely blown away at the sheer beauty of each piece...he is mostly known for his paintings...but after seeing this figure hello sculpture world!!!!Shortly after graduating in 1993, I started working as a freelance Artist for newspapers, magazines, recording companies, background art for the gaming industry and gallery.

Hayashi Shigeki Ceramic Art

Hayashi Shigeki Ceramic ArtI was browsing the net, and I ran across these amazing sculpts of a baby in a space suite. This reminds me of something out of a good old Manga comic or movie. Let me know what you think...you dig it?
Hayashi Shigeki, from Tajimi City, draws inspiration for his ceramic figures from images from science fiction, animated film and Japanese comic books known as manga?all of which have attracted him since he was a child. He comes from a region of Japan famous for the production of porcelain domestic ware, and he says "In order to express my ideas as art, I have found that porcelain is the best medium. However, I do not think of my works as ceramic pieces." His haunting figures, like this "QP" doll in a space suit, suggest a deeper, hidden narrative within this universally recognizable variation on the traditional Kewpie doll from the west. In 2007 this QP received the important Medal of the President of the Chamber of Deputies at the Faenza International Competition for Contemporary Ceramics in Italy.I don't know whether to be creeped out, or completely amazed at this truly unique sculpture...well I guess I can be both! I really like the futuristic look and feel of this ceramic doll. I don't know how tall or how much this weighs, but from the looks of it this piece is quite large!
